Cats are fussy drinkers, and plastic fountains are a common reason why. Plastic scratches, holds bacteria in the scratches, and carries a faint smell that a cat notices long before you do. Stainless steel does not.
Why stainless matters
- No biofilm — the slippery film that builds up in plastic bowls has nowhere to take hold.
- No plastic odour or taste — a frequent cause of cats refusing a fountain after the first week.
- Kinder to chins — plastic bowls are associated with feline chin acne; steel is the usual recommendation when that comes up.
Everyday use
2.2 litres suits one or two cats for several days. The pump runs ultra-quiet, so it will not wake anyone. Rinse the pump fortnightly and run the bowl through the dishwasher when it needs it.
Also fine for small dogs
The basin height suits smaller breeds, though a larger dog will empty it quickly — our 7L fountain is the better fit there.
