Mats do not brush out, they have to be teased apart. A detangling brush has enough spacing between the pins to separate a knot gradually instead of yanking at it — which is the difference between a pet that tolerates grooming and one that hides when it sees the brush.
What it does well
- Loosens knots and mats without dragging the whole tangle against the skin.
- Feels like a massage — rounded pin tips mean most animals settle into it rather than pulling away.
- Everyday maintenance — a couple of minutes a few times a week stops mats forming at all.
How to use it on a bad mat
Hold the fur at the base, between the mat and the skin, so the pulling goes into your hand rather than your pet. Work from the outer edge inward, a little at a time. If a mat is tight to the skin, cut it out or see a groomer — no brush is worth hurting them over.
Coat types
Long and short haired dogs and cats. At 19cm it is easy to control on a cat or a small dog, and still covers ground on a larger one.
